After inheriting two M1902's that were received by my ancestors upon their commission as Army Officers, and acquiring a few others, I've developed an interest in the subtle variations of different makers, countries of manufacture and periods of manufacture. Can anyone suggest definitive reference material for these? I have only dabbled with swords over the years but now find that I'm more interested in advancing toward serious study and acquisition. My primary interest are the M1860, M1902, M1904, and lastly, the Patton Cavalry Sabre. I'd like to learn more about these before I pursue the European swords/sabres. Someone suggested I might be going about this "in reverse" and that I should study the European's first, but my interest is limited to U.S. Cavalry and Infantry edged weapons pretty much by the circumstances I mentioned initially.
