Hello guys:)

When looking to get a good storage system for my knives i ended up maximizing an old code suit case i had with some pick n pluck foam.

It always been good to me and had stored there the max of 20 knives.
Here's a little taste of most that has passed through the collection for the last 3 years.

Well, after going through different stages of knife collecting i own only 8 knives now!
Three of them are cheapos and despite one being very close to my heart you won't be seeing pics of them in this thread:D
Yeah, less is more in my eyes and pride of ownership a big factor for me.

First off, the newest arrival:

More pics here

Beautiful:eek::)

So, the original suit case became too big for my small collection so i made up my mind an spent some money on what i really wanted to get in the first place, a Pelican case.
A Pelican 1120 to be more specific.
It really is amazing! Small, tough as nails, compact and where you can store your knives in a very safe manner.
Even if you have to put some locks on it to prevent the kids from messing with it.
I love it!

With this smaller case i can take my knives with me when spending some time away from home.
The suit case was too big to carry around and also to have it displayed in my living room.
This way is a lot better.
The case already has been customized with CRks generosity:D

Oh, what's inside?:D

  • Small Sebenza 21
  • Small Sebenza 21 Insingo
  • Large Regular Sebenza
  • Umnumzaan
  • Rick Hinderer 3" flipper XM-18

The three other cheapos will be kept in the original case;)
Well guys i think this is it, the buying days are over!
I mean, i can still see me buying some cheaper ones along the road but now i have achieved what i always wanted!
Get to experience different sorts of knives and then narrow the collection down to the ones i really like.
A 3,5" XM-18 would be the one i would really like to add to my Pelican so i could really say the grail hunt is over but to buy it i would have to sell one of the ones i already own and still add some cash, wich i don't see me do.
I love these knives and all will be used in all sorts of tasks.
The 3"s are EDCs but the Regular and the Umnum will be left in storage and only used around the house or when a tougher task requires it.

Anyway, it has been fun:)

Thanks for looking:)

Nice collection; it's neat to see how it has evolved. I really like the pelican case and could use a few of those myself...

I've been using old cutler/silverware boxes for folders and smaller fixed blades so far; seems to work okay for now.

When those are full, there's always drawers for overflow!

I need to refine what I've got in my collection as well and pare it down a bit. LOL!

that's nice too, specially for the fixed blades.
for folders i still prefer Pelicans:D

Nice collection. I find myself doing the same now....in the beginning I was just buying a ton...anything that looked cool. But then i started to learn what I do and dont like and have been getting rid of some, saving for some nicer ones. I think in the end my collection will be 5-10, and pretty darn close to what you have. Good stuff!

Awesome thread! I've been doing what you have done OP.

I now have about 12 knives after selling off most of my expensive production knives and have gone towards midtechs and customs. I have kept my cheap secondary EDC knives but for my main I usually have a custom.

The Les George VECP, xm18 3.5', Strider and Shirogorov have been my main EDC rotation along with a delica.or skyline. Less is more!

I do miss my expensive production and think I'm going to buy a few just because they bring me just as much joy as any custom.

I wish I had the will power to concentrate my knife collection down to only 5 folders.... I'm currently at 10 but that's my max. Less is definitely more.

I really believe this is the thing that will happen to most, not everyone, but most after collecting for a while.
Specially if you're a guy like me who can't afford to spend a lot on knives from now on.

The VECP would also be quite nice to own or a TAD Dauntless but the 3,5" would really do the trick:D
Those are the three i would really like to own but i would settle for a 3,5".

That's a beautiful collection you have there. I love seeing that despite rotating through sebenzas, hinderers and custom ritter grips, you still hang on to at least a couple Enlan knives. Its great.
I need to get a pelican case for my more expensive knives. I cant bear to have them sitting in that spyderco knife roll thing.
The problem is, unlike other collectors here, I have no ability to sell knives. I just can't even think about it. I don't know why. Its borderline hoarding.
oh well.

Nice collection. I too have a pelican case for storage. It's a 1400. I add one or two of those 40 gram dissicants to it to absorb moisture. Since it's air tight. Another holds my favorite pistol and mags.

  • I really appreciate how well rounded your collection is so far man. I'd be very proud to own that.

May I suggest a new (lock-up) Strider SMF

    Hinderer XM-18 3.5"

    Hinderer XM-24

    Emerson Super CQC-8

    :D

I wish I had the will power to concentrate my knife collection down to only 5 folders.... I'm currently at 10 but that's my max. Less is definitely more.

I hear ya, trying to do the same:

    2 XM-18 3.5" flippers
    2 XM-24 flippers
    1 lg. micarta inlay Sebenza
    Spyderco Military
    Spyderco Endura 4 zdp-189
    BM 710
    BM 940
Cold Steel lg. Voyager clip pt. VG-1 steel (no triad)
    Cold Steel 4" Ti-Lite
2 Sanrenmu 710's (desk duty at home) and my end table. Solid little knives after 2+ yrs of flicking and use.

What's that ---13 and reducing. Selling off the Endura and 2 CS's will bring it to 10!

Thanks man, i appreciate it:)
Despite having a bad experience with a Strider PT lock once, the fact is that i still love the look of Striders!
The knife was very comfortable and the new lock up seems good but the warranty issues is what prevents me from buying one.
Add the fact that there is a risk of having problems in customs once it enters my country if i need to send it.
I mean, there are too many IFS for me to ever consider buying a Strider again but like i said i really like the design, specially the CC stonewashed models.
Now, Emerson it's not really my thing.
My mini griptilian was in 154cm and i never really liked the steel.
Also the grind, as well as most designs, puts me off a bit!
I like the mini CQC-15 and the mini A-100 though:)

I wasn't paying attention but your collection is even more amazing, given that you're residing in Europe and have to find your knives over there or pay shipping & deal with customs if purchased in the States - wow.

What knife is in the top right corner of the 3rd picture down. The handles look like the mini grip but the blade doesn't. It could just be the angle though.

That's right:)
Knives cost way more over here than in the US and all i own now were bought in Europe!

It's a mini grip:)

Thanks for showing the evolution of your collection. It was really interesting seeing it evolve into the less is more category (which I also ascribe to). I wish I had pictures of my collection from start to now. Very cool idea. Missing from this picture is my Mini-Rukus which is at BM being repaired for s stripped screw. It's part of my "less is more" collection.

Did exactly the same thing. Bought many, many knives and have whittled the folder list down to six and the fixed blades down to only custom and a total of 13. Less is more for me and with knives, I found I want to hold them and use them rather than stash them away. Guess I'm just not much of a collector and more of an appreciater of quality, usable tools!!

I love the collection. There are a few in there i don't recognize that i really like the looks of. First, whats the knife in the third picture, fifth down on the right side (brown wood scales)? What's the knife in the bottom right hand corner of the 4th picture? And last, whats the top knife in 8th picture (the one sitting above the para mili)? thanks so much.
