I want to move my knife collection from a stack of boxes in a closet to a more appropriate storage arrangement. Since it is comprised chiefly of fixed blades, mostly large ones, and is going to grow, a nice wooden chest isn't going to have the required capacity. I have been checking out the Craftsman multi-drawer steel tool boxes, and they may be about what I need.
Has anyone had any experience with using the Craftsman tool box liner material with stored knives? It is claimed to be resistant to a variety of oils, acids, etc. My questions:
1. Is it hygroscopic? Does it absorb and retain moisture?
2. Can it be in contact with handle materials, mostly micarta, for extended
periods without sticking?
Also, I presently have several of these knives in Bill's Custom Cases. Would this be a safe storage alternative? I have had excellent long term storage results with firearms in cases, by the simple expedient of leaving the cases partially unzipped to prevent captive atmospheric conditions.
