Do you guys estimate the Mother of Pearl and hardwood sak's will gain any collection value?

And if so! Should one get them in Swisschamp or spartan (tourist for mother of pearl) form-factors?

Also, is there an enhanced value, if any, to getting things like a knife only made in red and putting say white scales on it? It would not make it more rare, but in other countries, certain knives were made available in colors like white or yellow or blue, when it usually only came in red. On other words, is there a difference between factory-installed and user-installed scales in terms of value?

Of course in items like a white supertimer, where you cannot just swap scales, I could see there being additional value.

Always hard to predict what collectors will value in the future.

Generally speaking, any factory variation that makes a knife scarcer may increase collector interest over time. I'm referring to differences in production knives from the standard configuration done by the company, not mods done by someone else. Mods may demand a higher value, but not necessarily from collectors.

I've been wondering if some the Wengers will increase in value now that Vic is eliminating them.

Since it are the scales that would make a hardwood or Mother of Pearl SAK collectible, it probably doesn't matter very much if they're put on a Spartan or SwissChamp. Especially if it isn't too hard to remove those scales and put them on your favourite model.

It's hard to predict which Wengers will become collectible. But I think it are these:
- the models with special tools, which are usually only found on the thick models
- the models from the Eloxy series
- the Standard Issue, which I think is already collectible
- some of the thicker and older models in the Ranger series

Thanks for the replies.

Should I get the Spartan, Swisschamp AND Huntsman, or one will do? I like the wood, but won't use it for EDC. The Swisschamp also would not have a pen and pin. The Huntsman, for some reason, is the model that always comes out with say yellow scales or any specialty/collection edition, - not sure why. And the Spartan is the most widely available 91mm (and even come in clam-style packaging even with the wood). Not sure how any of that would impact collectibility.

Also, what about factory made (non-modded) models, but that are runs requested by a particular provider (a la Swiss Bianco)? Any collection value in that? In theory, one should be able to, with a large enough order, ave the same done at any time.
