Michelle,
In a Blue Native Post, you refered to a "collector club", what is this club all about and how does somebody join it?

You hook up with a dealer and agree to buy every new release at MSRP, what could be easier or more expensive? For that you get one of the first 200 numbered knives in Spyderedge (unless only made in plainedge). I was kinda underwhelmed myself.

As much as I like Spyderco knives and respect the company, I feel that they are missing the boat with the collector club. Because you are excluding a large number of Spyderco fans because of the high cost then you are not allowing for the cheapest advertising out there. The best sales reps. that the company has are the owners. Make them part of the family. They are a good bunch. We don't even need a secret handshake.
Thx.

Collector number 68 checking in -

The only high cost is that upon joining, you have to buy all of the knives left over from the last person to have your number. In my case this was seven knives. If these are lightweights, not a really big deal, if they are custom collabs, get the credit card out!

Upon joining I got a Spyderench, Spydercard, Shabaria, Lum, JD Smith, Matriarch, and Ltwt Calypso Jr, all number 68. Think I'll have too hard a time getting rid of these should I so desire?

You get first dibs on the latest and greatest Spyders, with matching serial numbers. You are shipped a partially serrated Spyder if the variant exists, and have the opportunity to order additional knives in any other variant offered (the variants receive your serial number plus a "V").

The retail price level is the trade off for getting the newest Spyders, before the dealers even get theirs, with the matching serial numbers. It's just what the name says: a collector's club. If you're not a collector, then it does make sense to wait until they hit the stores, and buy them at a discounted price.

Like all those abundant Spyderenches, Lums, Starmates, and Shabarias that are around for a discount...

The actual end cost is up to you and your dealer. If an item is made with SpyderEdge, then that's what you get automatically. Each collector's letter includes information on other variants that you can get marked with your collector number, and a 'V'. If you see a Spyderco marked with 'V', it was purchased by a collector as a variant.

I got number 86 at the same time that Brian got 68; there aren't many two-digit numbers available now. Chai Cutlery handles my account. My "good karma cut" goes to the organization in my signature.

I add my two thumbs up to the "collectors club." With the nearest retail knife store being 2 hours away, I depend on the collectors club (and bladeforums) to keep up with the latest and greatest from Spyderco. When I joined last summer, there were no double digits available, and very few with prior numbers used so the initial investment was a little steep, but they will work with you to an extent to space out those purchases. If you are a collector as well as a user you can't beat this program.
