Collector Value of a Tyrade?

Hey folks,

I work in a knife shop up in BC, Canada, and our chain of stores has a trade show once a year where we get to fondle some awesome knives, see what the vendors are coming out with, and basically have a right good time talking knives and enjoying other knife knuts' company.

This year, the Kershaw regional rep, Rick, put up a Tyrade for one of the door prizes. I'd had my eye on a Tyrade for some time now, so I sure was hoping that this one would fall into my hands. Long story short, it did.

I was just wondering what kind of availability and production numbers the Tyrades had and whether it was worth keeping as a collector's item. I have so many other knives, including a composite Leek, that I don't really need to put this one into my EDC rotation as I already have larger knives, plus one with CPMD2, so I can see how the steel performs.

So, basically, my questions to you are: What were the production numbers? Will they continue in production for some time? Is there going to be a collector's market for them?

Thanks for your time!

Travis

BTW, out of all the knife companies, Kershaw/KAI/Shun is by far one of the most generous. I've attended two trade shows now, received a Shun knife of some sort at each of them, won the Tyrade at this one, and won an SG2 Blur last year at around the same time.

It goes without saying that Kershaws end up in a lot of my customers' pockets. Keep it up, Kershaw, you've got my support!

I think the total number of Tyrades was going to end at 2000.
I'm not sure if they have all been made up and are on the market
yet. It should make for a very collectible knife since it was the
first CB knife from Kershaw with the addition of it being made in
limited numbers.

Thanks. I think I'll box it up and let 'er sit.. Kinda hurts to do that.. It goes against all I stand for. We'll see how long it stays in the box.

2000 is quite few on a pricey knife like that... this is all speculation and opinion but even with the significance of the composite blade, I can't imagine anything beyond retail. who knows though. Look what happened to the LCC microtechs etc.

Not to mention that the Ti-ZDP Leeks had a street price
of about $150 and are now going for $200 + on the bay.
There where 1000 of those made. Only time will tell.....

Also, winning 2007 Blade Overall Knife of the Year might be a distinction that improves collectible value. Would be interestiing to track the value of every Blade OKY winner where the version that won was limited (limited production, serialized, different markings, etc.), to see if there's an appreciation trend . . .
