Collectors number?

I have an opportunity to get an expensive spyderco collectors number. Its at a really good price should I jump on it? Are the collectors much more sought after than the regular knives? Thanks for the help

A collector # generally doesn't make a Spyder any more valuable than the same model without one. I'd say most people prefer knives without numbers, unless they want that particular number to match other knives in their collection.

Yeah, don't go spending an exorbitant amount of money on a knife because it has a specific number (unless that's your thing ). CC knives are the same exact knives as those in a given production run.

Does a certain collector number belong to a certain person? Or are those certain knives just numbered and them sold to whoever?

A given member of the Spyderco Collector's Club will get the same number on each model. But if the collector decides not to get the knife, it can be sold to whomever by the dealer he/she gets the Collector's Club knives from.

Yes, to an extent that is correct. Basically, you "buy" into the collectors club, you are assigned a number by Spyderco. That number will appear on the next release. You are saying by joining that you will buy every knife (based on the level of membership) released or variant, which is what the V stands for. It's nothing like other companies that use a "limited Production 001/100" kind of thing.

thanks for the info guys. And wow that is a big commitment to have to commit to buying so all the knives.

The thread I mentioned it in was overrun with all sorts of posts and a multipage disagreement over capitalism and communist control of sprints ensued. :D
I have ended up buying more sprint runs this year than any other previous year. I haven't bought all of them, but I have picked up quite a few. I think it would be a cool thing to have available for those that want them. Sal didn't chime in uch after the thread went downhill.

Heh...I remember that. What an anti-classic thread. :p
