college shop for making knives?

Well i am a struggling college student trying to make my way through school and always wondered if i could legally use the college shops machines to produce knives. I have been doing alot of study in the from of a knife lately and been experimenting alot with shapes. But all is lost since i cannot afford to put together all the tool needed to work with metals. Any help on what an all purpose metal working setup would be? I have little money to work with but want to make my own knives.

Well thats what I am doing actually. It realy depends on the shop foreman. I was lucky enough to get on his friendly side. He has been teaching me what I need to know to use his shop safe.
