My mom and her husband are moving into a smaller house. She just turned 90🍻.
Her husband gave me this Collins brush axe. Said his parents were hiking around an old abandoned CCC camp and found this axe.
I haven’t seen one with the little brass plate. It is hand stamped with 10 1/2.
I know they’re not worth much but thought it was interesting.
My mom’s husband stained the handle and painted, sharpened the blade.
It’s Freddy Kruger sharp. Cut myself right off the bat. Just touched the blade with my finger, it split me open….

Impressive that it's still sharp. A testament to the quality of the steel and a kudos for the former owner.

That's the right way for a brush axe to be hung, with the steel strap to secure it. If It's an original brush axe handle the top of the eye will not be kerfed. If it's been rehung on an axe handle then it will be kerfed.

It's looks a nice vintage WPA haft. I would definitely keep it original. I'd like to see the shape of the full handle.

Can’t find much info on WPA.
Can anyone guess a rough date on the head.
I believe it will make a cool wall hanger.

That strap is loose. It's an axe handle. Brush axe handles have a longer tongue and the hump further down the haft where the strap can engage it.

I ended up making a new strap for my brush axe. I sized it so that the bolt would draw the strap very tight when I tightened the nut.
