16 years ago when I first got to Mexico I bought one of these machetes to clear brush from the yard around the house we rented. 53cm long 3mm thk. w/plastic scales.

Still a very durable good cutting blade. Great for small tree removal and cutting sod etc. Every old hand here in Mexico gives it an A+ when they get their hands on it. Probably cost the equivalent of $20 back then.

Anyone else handle one of these or have any other info?

The oldies are great (and not just because I'm an East Hartfort boy ;) ) The axes are actually pretty great too if you happen to bump into one in your travels.

The factory in Collinsville CT is still physically there, great places to do some exploring in the area as well. I highly recommend a google seach, the history is pretty readily available.

Got any pics? Collins made some really great stuff, especially when they were made in the US. Their Colombian production stuff wasn't too shabby either, though not quite as good. I've got a few Collins blades and they're all excellent tools.

I'll get it out in the sunlight and put one up later in the day.

I have a couple of Collins machetes and axes from the 1920s and 1930s, hand-me-downs from my grandfather. I have no idea what they were using for steel or how they were heat treating them, but they still cut like crazy and forever. Someone was doing something really right.
