I don't know if Mann continued to supply the S American market after they bought Collins.

Why thank you most kindly!:)

It is one of those axes that are difficult to photograph;much more impressive in real life.
The edge is 6" even;5 1/2" from front of eye to toe;the eye itself 2 7/8 x 1 1/4...

IDK, but according to Lamond, Mann only bought the US part of Collins and Stanley the rest. I think an agreement was also made that the Mann/Collins would only be marketed in the US.

Yes sir,the axe is mine now.A gift fro a friend who found it on a gravel bar exposed by low water....(in winter many bars on Yukon show up...).
Massive axe, what's left of the haft is almost uncomfortable to grasp, and my hands are not small...
The corrosion is deep, stamping very hard to read, possibly an "&" there between "collins" and "co"...

I do,Agent_H,thank you. There's a lumber dealer in the nearest to me city that sells clear,air-dried hickory, and are super decent people, and even via mail would select exactly what one needs...

The pitting on this axe is fairly severe...i'm not sure if i'd venture into restoring it to a working tool.
Btw,forgot to mention:The blade is bent, close to the heel.I can re-HT,or try it cold....(possibly not the wisest, old American axes were usually quite hard).Again,i've no problem heat-treating simpler alloys, but,et c.,et c.,........

And,of course,i use an axe shamefully little...too much woodwork,logging,cabin-building,so 99.999% chainsaw work,alas...

At least you're honest. Back in Sept of 1979 I was offered employment with gov't of B. C. to help build a truck and car traversable log bridge over a narrow river. We (5 of us including the foreman) were sent out there with a brand-spanking-new Pioneer chainsaw and a case of vintage adzes, chisels and assortment of axes. I wasn't long figuring out how to cleanly notch logs much faster with the power saw and the other lads cheerfully stood back. In hindsight it was a shame I didn't take advantage of the situation (public servants are paid solely by the hour and are not rewarded for expediency or efficiency) but then again I had already had plenty of experience with axes.

Exactly,300Six,thanks for understanding, and for putting it quite well, too.

One problem is that our summer here is so darn short...Maybe mid-May to mid-October,and you're done,as in it's -20F and those nails in them bags still have to be fumbled for with bare hand et c....

The irony of it all is,that to the Innocent, the Uninitiated, much of what i do spells:"Hand Tools"...But it's all accomplished with power tools ...
One good friend has finished his house,a nice log place with dove-tailed corners, and hung some neat old tools inside,on the walls.A nice two-man saw,a broad-axe,et c.And one day as we were having a beer there he said:"You know,i ought to've hung that old 044 Stihl up on them walls,it's what did all this work...kinda unfair"....:)

Here, let me try my hand at photo posting(again:)....
