Found a Collins columbia made machete with a 28" blade. By scimitar I mean the blade looks like a cutlass or saber shape (like the scimitar butcher knives), very curved. The blade is 28" from the front of the wooden grip to the tip, and about 30" if you measure along the sharp curve of the blade.
Anyone ever seen one? or know what it would have been intended for?
I thought it was kinda weird, so of course had to have it. :)

no pics yet, but blade shape similar to this

What kind of shape is it in? Any guess on it's age? I might be interested in a trade if you are.

Sounds perhaps like a "sable" pattern? Like one of these?

If so they were used mostly on grasses and green vegetation.

No idea as to age, but it is in what I would call "old, but never sharpened or used" shape. Not really trying to sell or trade, thanks.

Ok--that's what I thought! That pattern of machete is great for cutting a path through tall grasses or thorn bushes. They'll just bounce off of anything thicker than green wood the size of your wrist, but they do an amazing job on the targets they were intended for. The light blades make them very fast in the hand and they won't fatigue you even with extended use. :)

Cool, just the info I was looking for, thanks a bunch.

So, all that tall, grassy stuff blocking my view of the lake is gonna be in trouble now. :-)

Hells yeah it will! Put a nice thin edge on that puppy and you'll be in business. :D:thumbup:
