Collins commander worth picking up?

I have a chance to get a Collins Commander but I don't know if it's worth picking up. By "worth" I don't mean money, I mean quality as a user. I have a handful of axes that I've collected. Some older, like a nice Plumb Victory and a Collins BSA hatchet, some new like a USA made Snow and Neally Hudson Bay. I'm interested in quality tools that I can use and hand down to my kids. The Commander is not stamped, just the remains of a paper label, but the head is in good shape. Anyone have any input on the quality of this model? Worth cleaning up or just another box store axe?

If the price is right then I'd say go for it, even if you don't end up liking it you could probably Trade it to someone who just has to have a narrower poll Michigan with phantom bevels.

Really, it depends on price. They are OK. Not bad, not he best steel or handle but OK. Better cutter than splitter, but you know it will do ok at whatever. As a keeper to use I would not pay more than $20. I personally would not want to pay more than $10. It isn't junk, and it isn't special.

I can get it for next to nothing, so that's not the issue. It will need a new handle. The existing one is a little mashed up from overswings, but I enjoy rehanging. I'll probably get it and clean it up to use as a car camping axe. Thank you for the help fellas.

When you figure on paying $50 plus tax for today's Mexico/China/India version of a new axe then anything under that for a clean and vintage brand name for sure is the way to go.
