That's going to be tough to file out. My wife loaned my plumb DB to the neighbor kid to chop out a stump. It got a lot of similar damage. Needless to say I wasn't too happy about it. I had to spend a lot of time filing the bits. The damaged areas were work hardened too so the file wanted to skip across those spots.

No file for me. Im just breaking out the belt sander. Low grit loww speed. Ill post some pics when done

all done. rough finish butas much as i use it i dont see getting down to the nitty gritty. Coarse belt is 150 grit. make the hardest bits easy to work. This bit never even got warm! think i need a little reprofiling in the future

Bummer, go buy a cheap one from a hardware store and have that one as a dedicated loaner.

She owes you big time. That should fuel at least 3 new axe purchases.

It already has. That's what got me started collecting axes. The axe she loaned was a Plumb DB I inherited from my grandfather. She couldn't understand why I got mad. There was a cheap Chinese axe sitting right next to it that I use for cutting sod. I don't leave my good axes where she can easily get at them now. I guess we both learned something.

To me this an axe being used. Don't get em all up in a bunch. File it out, and rinse and repeat. Its an axe after all.

Not as bad as I thought I would see. Legitimus CT though. My wife or kids don't touch my tools with out asking.
Might as well get all you can out of it. It would help if you could get watery eyed.

I sell any axes i dont use. My tiny place and tons of sharp things just dont add up haha. I have two now this being one of. Just finished prepping the firewood 20 minutes ago with it :D

I am planning an axe cabinet on one wall in the basement. Nice ones inside for my use, loaners hang on the outside. Nothing fancy but keeps mine out of sight/reach.

Glad you got that one sharpened out and back in use.

And then there are threads about loaning out pocket knives. My personal favorite is when the guy replied to what he needed to cut with "Cut nothing, I'm trying to adjust a carburetor."

Yes, control access to your good axes and only leave the beaters out for the public to get. Case in point, I started handing over a pair of scissors when people asked for a knife, it sorted out the sheep and goats real quick. Somebody asks for an axe, hand them a limb saw and see how they react. Some will say, oh ok, thanks, and the others will ask "How am I supposed to do (a destructive to your axe job) with this?"

Sheep and goats.
