I bought a camp axe a few weeks ago, came with a CRAPPY edge so I put my own on it. Good quality overall, hefty finish and a good haft. The head is a bit heavy for my tastes but for 12 dollars it's a good beater.

I got the exact same hatched. Had it for many years, It seems o.k. Maybe i put too sharp of an edge on it but it seems i damaged the edge chopping some wood. That thing is shaving sharp.

I have had several of their products. Their handles are just awful in my experience. Three or four axes, a couple of 8lb sledge hammers, and a 3lb hammers. I exchanged the axe a few times, the handle having broken in the first week of use. The last one I got was still handled badly and it broke a couple of weeks later, I couldn't return it and I couldn't find a new handle for it, so I bought a True Temper. I bought the three pound hammer at the same time, it broke after a week and I got a refund and bought a True Temper. I bought the sledge hammer at the same time, the handle on the first one broke within the day, wedging wood; I returned it for an exchange, the second one broke the same way as the first on the first day I used it, I could not return it, I went and bought a True Temper. My verdict Collins Axe handles are beyond crap, True Temper tools are great.

Crappy edge on my boys axe, but I am working on a good convex edge on it. Does a good job, especially for 15 bucks. Feels good in the hands.

Ive got a double bit axe with the same "Collins" in a rectangle and haven't had any success dating it so far.--KV

It's a late stamp, post WWII through late 70's, early 80's give or take a bit. I've seen it on older Collins stuff from when the company was still in Conn., but it was mostly used on tools made after Mann Edged Tool of Pa bought the rights to the name.

I've got a collins hatchet I purchased about 1985. It doesn't say "collins" on the head, but it had a label on the handle. It does have a M on the head though. I just took a sanding disk on my grinder to tune it up and it turned out great.
