Collins machete a neighbor gave me

I did some yard work for an elderly neighbor and they gave me this machete. I put a photo of it up on a tool page and someone said it was rusty, but to me it looks like it was never rusted, it looks like it was just manufactured very cheaply and quickly and this is the way it always looked, rough. I am sure there is someone here that knows all about it, but as sharp as the stamped markings are on it I am sure they were never rusted before. I think this was made to be sent to some theater of WWII and left behind after the war was over. I saw another machete by this same company at a house sale recently, but it was very shiny and polished and had a fancy leather sheath, a real showpiece that must have been made in peacetime.

Yeah that's a typical finish on those. You have some light surface rusting, but the finish is as it always was. :)

I see a lot of Collins tool as they were local to my area and 42B is spot on, just about every machete I've seen was pretty roughly put together. When I was younger clearing out some cane at my Grandmother's house I cut my hand on the plastic handle on one of those. They do clean up well if you put in the time.

Now if you ever see one of their axes (or their alternate brands) grab it, the older ones are great
