Collins with TG stamp

I recently purchased a double bit axe while in South Texas at an estate sale. There was three similar axes and I snatched the only one that I could see a makers stamp on. It is a Collins in the rectangle box. Upon wire brushing it I also came across a “TG” stamp on the same side as the Collins stamp.
My problem is this - I’ve never seen a double bit that is only 8.5 inches wide with 4 inch blades and hung on a 27.5 inch handle. I don’t know what the head weighs because the handle is in good shape and I don’t really want to remove it. But head and handle together are about 3lbs 6 oz.
Anybody familiar with this? I was told it was specific to South Texas for use in the thickets but nothing more.

Sounds like what is called a Cruiser or Cruisers axe - which is a smaller double bit axe - usually 2.5lbs and typically hung on a 28" handle.
I don't think they are all that uncommon.
I'm not familiar with the TG stamp - sounds like maybe something that was stamped later on by the owner. you see a lot of FS stamps which means it was owned by the Forest Service, and USA which means military, also Bell System = phone company, and you'll also see rail road acronyms. Maybe someone will know what the TG stands for - or maybe its just someones initials.

oh and to post images you need to use an image hosting site like photobucket, or imgur, or postimage, etc.

I'm not very computer literate and I don't have any trouble with it. Its really not that hard. Just set up an account, download your pictures to that site, and then copy and paste the image link from the site to this website. I use postimage and the link that I use is called "hotlink for forums"

I just paste the link into the message text and the image magically appears

There’s a old thread here on the TG stamp, its definitely connected to Collins/Mann axes. I don’t believe anyone came up with what it stands for.
