I was at a friend's today, helping him set up a computer, and I ended up coming home with a load of stuff as payment. In the pile was a rusty Texsport 31900 18" machete. Cleaned it up, looks useful at least. Molded plastic handle, full-tang with four brass rivets.

Anyway, it's marked "Colombia." Anyone know who the "real" company who made this thing might be? I doubt Texsport as their own factory over there. Just curious if it might be something known under another name.

I'm going to tag this, for now, as I have the name of at least on Columbian machete maker on hand somewhere. The Colombians made some machetes for Collins a while back, and I had gotten info researching that. I know the info probably wouldn't apply to youe texsport, but I'll have to dig it out.

Finally used it. It might be a no-name but it's a decent tool. Sanded and polished it up, sharpened the edge up to 500 grit--hair popping sharp. It rings like a bell when you cut foliage.

The only Colombian machete brand I know of is Gavilan, and they seemed pretty good. I've been offered them but never used one. I've seen them in Costa Rica. My wife's from there so I've been there a bit. I prefer and buy the Costa Rican brand Coroneta. I've also bought the El Salvadoran brand IMACASA.
