A friend from another group posted this request, and I figured maybe someone here could help. Thanks. Here is his request:

Does anybody know where to get a functional tomahawk reproduction from the colonial period or even to the early American west? I Googled it and got a bunch of crap on TLAMs, some genuine tomahawk collector stuff, and so on. The only thing that was even close had "Rogers Rangers" and Ranger tabs on them which I really don't want. I'm not looking for some supergrade engraved version like in Patriot or a custom made job, I just want something that will look nice on the mantle but still be functional.

You might just try searching this forum. There have been a couple of posts that have links to 'hawk makers.

One of the first questions your friend should ask himself is how much does he want to pay? That should help narrow the field.

Here are some places he could start:

HB Forge

Ragnar's Throwing Axes

Two Hawks

If he wants something custom made he could contact Raymond Richard

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

I hope I have the spelling correct, but as I recall Joe Szaliski makes some of the more highly regarded top-drawer custom hawks. He had a hawk and knife collaboration with Ed Fowler that was a spectacular set. The hawk head and the knife blade were Ed's legendary 52100 and Joe did the finishing work. I handled a set and wish I was still holding them!

There have been some prior threads in this forum on both the collaboration set and Joe's work in general.

Do a search for Delaronde Forge. They have great stuff. Sometimes they got spike hawks on Ebay. That's where I got mine.

"Track of the Wolf" had a mail order catalog packed with good copies of actual tomahawks. How do you find this company? Maybe a google search.

I liked mine. It came hand forged, but awfully soft. I tried a couple of ways to harden it, checking hardness each time(water quench, oil quench). Now, it is a dandy.

They are out there, don't give up.

Cheers
