I just got these 3 Colonial 492's in the mail today, only one of them has both scale inserts intact do you guys think I should scrape off the advertising? also looking for suggestions on replacement handle scale insert material, thanks in advance.

I'd say the advertising is part of the character, so I'd leave it unless I wanted the new handle material to match the old.
I can't think of many materials that thin. Maybe formica? Wood veneer?

Upon closer inspection the original scale inserts were pretty bad and coming off anyway, ended up taking them off, hopefully I can find something attractive looking to go in there perhaps some kind of epoxy or acrylic seems like it would be easier if it started out in liquid form rather than trying to find something that thin.

I'd cut a piece out of some sort of picture to put in there and pour some clear epoxy over it.
It doesn't even have to be a picture really, it could just be a piece of paper in your favorite color, or a pattern made of tiny scraps of paper.
