I found a cool little metal handle knife in a shop yesterday. It has Colonial, Prov R.I. USA on the blade tang. It's in fair condition and needs a little cleaning but the blades are sharp and still have good pull. + bail! I'll post some more pics after I get it cleaned up.

I got one recently very much like that. Mine is a shell handle. Light as a feather and sharp as a razor.
Cool find.

I have been buying Colonial Barlows and Electrician knives. I find that some are better made than others. Seems that Colonial also made a lot of advert knives for a lot of companies.

This is purely conjecture, but I wonder if those covers are celluloid. That rust looks like celluloid induced rust to me.

Looks like some nicely patina'd brass or goldtone.

I kinda like it the way it is!

Yeah, I realized after I posted that I hadn't read quite correctly. I never said I were very smart.

I will go with Glennbad and say goldtone. Could have been a pocket watch fob knife. I have a pocket watch that the watch is one one end of the chain and a single bladed knife is on the other end. Each went in a pocket in a vest and the chain was exposed in the middle.

That cleaned up real nice!

I like these skeleton knives, I have a few. I have a miller bros one that is pretty cool. Also one very tiny, under 1" long!

Steve P., I am sure they show up on the bay from time to time. Lots of old Colonials to be found on the bay. I look for Electrician's knives and Barlows with adverts.
