Color Codes for Steel

I'm just looking through a couple of the supplier catalogs that I have on ATS-34 steel. Some of them list it as "Yellow" and another lists it as "Red" (end markings).

What does this color code mean?

If they are different, which is better and why.

i'm pretty sure that's so they don't have to search through the supply room for the word ats-34, instead of just looking for red on the bar. plus you won't get the bars mixed up when stacking them.

There are no standard color codes for steel. Each manufacturer has a different color for each grade and each distributor may also have a different color for the same grade. If you buy a piece from a distributor or supply house, that grade should consistently have the same color code.
