On Sunday, Pokey and I participated in our first 5K. It was called Color Me RAD and it was pretty spectacular! Color Me RAD isn't a race to the finish, its more of a run for fun kind of 5K. You start the race with a white shirt, a run tag, a temporary RAD tattoo, and some awesome fluorescent sunglasses. Throughout the run, you are pelted and sprayed with powdered and liquid color. By the end of the race you are a very radical looking runner, hence the "RAD" in Color Me RAD.

Before the race they had all sorts of crazy contests going on up on the stage. There was a Red Bull chugging contest and a "Fluffy Bunny" contest to name a couple. They were throwing a free stuff into the crowd and playing all kinds of upbeat music blasting from the speakers to get everyone pumped up for the run. There was so much energy that it was hard not to be excited.

There were different heats or waves that were being released for runs at different times. I can't speak for Pokey, but I could hardly wait to get started running. The run was so much fun, and the color stations made you want to keep going.

Below are a couple pictures that I took with my phone before and after the race. We both thought it would be wise to not take our phones with us on the run and save them from the powdered color, so we got a disposable camera to take pictures with throughout the run. Once those pictures are developed, I'll be sure to post them for you all to see.

Getting ready to leave after the race :D

I'm sure Pokey will be by in no time to post a few of the pictures that she has on her phone.
If anyone is thinking about signing up for a color run, I highly recommend it. It was such a great time, I will definitely be doing this again.

This is great!
It's nice to see folks staying in good shape!!
Thanks!

awesome!! I am far too out of shape for something like that. Looks like tons of fun though.

Looks like fun!! My fionce has dragged me into the Cosmic Run this Saturday night, so we will see how it goes!

Lora, the smiles on your faces says it all...congrats on having a fun run!:D:thumbup:

Proud of you two. I know you have been working hard to get ready for these runs. Glad to see you had an awesome time.

I'm afraid of doing those things with all the paint color dust going into my lungs (recently got over having pneumonia so I'm extra paranoid). Looks like extreme fun! Just not to my lungs....

My wife just ran a 1/2 marathon Saturday (13:1 miles). She finished 12th in her age bracket.

I am always nervous about the color runs due to the powder and having sensitive lungs!

With Color Me RAD not being timed it was hard to tell whether we finished in a decent amount of time. Our heat/wave was one of the middle ones, and we made it to the finish line before the last heat/wave was starting. When we checked the time, we finished in about 35-40 minutes. I don't think that's too bad for our first 5K.

The powder is colored corn starch and it does burn a little to breathe in. It's pretty but I might suggest wearing a bandana or something to keep from inhaling too much.

Why can't they have a "Color me Paintballed"? That would make them all run faster. :p

Looks like fun.
Thank you for sharing.

As odd as it sounds, I do think that this would make a run more interesting! You'd definitely have to be dedicated to sign up for a run like that.
