I used to empty my cache folder all the time before I got XP. Plus the Temporary Internet Files. Now I do a disk cleanup, but the cache folder isn't included. I did a search on my C: drive for "cache." It returned 25 folders for a total of 137 files with "cache" in the name.

How the heck am I supposed to know which cache file or folder I want?

I could use some help here. :o

Thanks,

TJ

Are you wanting to delete your internet cache or the OS temporary files?

The internet files are usually part of a folder tree called C:\Documents and Settings

Poke around in there if you want to do it manually.

Your browser should have a setting for handling cache and history.

In Firefox go to Tools then Options. Click the Privacy icon. There's a button to clear private data. Also a Settings button where you can choose what things you want cleared out when you click the other button. In firefox you can have it empty the cache automatically when you exit Firefox.

I haven't used IE in years so I don't know for certain where it's settings are, but I recall that there was a button in Internet Options for clearing out the cache. But even the newest IE still stores all typed URLs in your registry of all places so you have to use a registry editor often to clean up after IE.

Judy, the only two caches I am aware of in XP are in your Internet Explorer and your DNS.

If you're using FireFox, go to Tools, then Clear Private Data;
check the box labeled "Clear Cache", then click on "Clear Private Data Now".

ps

It's also worth noticing that it'll tackle index.dat files, and no person wants them on their machine ;-)

If you go into the control panel on IE,then internet options, the screen that pops up will do what you want,I don't remember for sure, but it give you the option to clear, history, temp file and 1 or 2 others, that should be all you need to get rid of.

+1 for Ccleaner. Free, easy to use, fast, and very effective. Never had a problem and I've been using it forever.

On XP just go to your control panel and click on Internet Options....It will give you all the deletes you need (Temp Files, Cookies, History etc.)

Then you can have your cache and eat your cookies :-)
