We made a run to Colorado for a little more than a week of camping.
We camped at Lake Vallecito outside Durango. The drive was long but beautiful.
Fortunately my guys can sometimes be easily entertained.

The campsite was nestled among the pines right on the lake.

There were several rainy afternoon/evenings and a couple of thunderstorm nights that didn't help anybody sleep.
The BK16 lived on my hip in camp, but got handed off for a little whittling by the youngest.

The 9 and 10 also came along for the ride along with a cheapy Winchester fixed blade that actually helped me stumble into Beckerdom.

Oldest son got to use the Winchester however he wanted to. Didn't take long until he had to spend a bit of time practicing his sharpening.

We tried out something I have heard of for years but never used - pie irons.

Attempt #1 didn't go well.

Turns out you aren't supposed to put the pie irons directly on the coals.
Attempt #2 yielded much better results.

Most of the cooking was done on a Coleman stove. I found this cool chain-mail cast iron scrubber that worked really well and will be a welcome addition to the home cast iron cleaning efforts.

We got in some hiking,

a run up to Purgatory, a trip to Mesa Verde,

and I even pulled off a very little bit of fishing. Caught a couple of small small-mouth bass.

All in all - a great trip.
