Hello,

I have some G-10 that composed of both green and black layers. The green looks a bit light for my taste.

Do any of you know of a way to tint the G-10 darker on a permanent basis? I would like the green to be almost black, so that the contoured G-10 has a very subtle wood grain-like appearance.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Someone else here may have some more experience, but I don't think you can do this, at least not any way that would stand up to any use. The resin they use for G10 is rather dense, so not sure of any way you could get any dyes or coloring to absorb into it well enough to last up to even the smallest scratches.

But I've had no luck trying to colour G10. For the heck of it, I just tried it again on the weekend - didn't work. The weave in G10 is glass fibre which just doesn't suck any of the dye up. The weave of linen / cotton / canvas in the Micartas seem to actually absorb some spirit based dyes quite well. Another thought - are you actually polishing the G10 or just using a matte finish ? G10 is very crystal-like on the surface when matte and goes darker when polished up. Jason.
