The alarm would sound as the early morning light was still tucked behind the rolling hills. Excitement already had me awake as I lay in the small bunk bed thinking about the day's adventure. The smell of lighter fluid filled the little camper's space as the Aladdin hand warmers were fueled for the bitter cold of the early morning, "its cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass money boys" my dad would say with a grin. He would light the hand warmers and slip them into one of those purple Crown Royal bags, perfectly sized for the pocket heaters.

Ten years have passed since this memory last played out before my eyes. In that time I've lost a few hunting partners, my dad being one of them. But certain things bring fourth this memory that's been stowed away and romanticized. The color purple is the key to unlock this particular memory.

I leave for bear camp on Friday and although I won't be with those lost hunting partners, I have a new one, thanks to my girlfriend!

This beautiful knife was gifted to me by my beautiful girlfriend yesterday. This particular handle variation has been an intriguing prospect for me. A knife my girlfriend and I have shared pictures of back and fourth. Some belong to the great members of this forum and others from varies venders. The exact knife she got me I had spied on Monday and immediately showed to her because of the amazing character in the scales, not just the color, but the texture. We both fell in love. Times are tough though and the extra expenditure wasn't going to happen... from me.

I was taking her to work and she asked for me to stop at the post office, she had a sly grin the whole time. She handed me the box and I quickly opened it knowing full well what was inside. The pure beauty of the natural materials molded into a working piece of art is truly stunning. This knife is as photogenic as they come! The way it almost seems to change colors in the daylight is spectacular. The walk and talk is perfect. This knife is steeped in love thanks to my girlfriend and I can't wait to have it with me in those big woods in search of a big ol' PA black bear. The old memories I have of those frozen mornings play back in my mind as I hold this knife in hand, the new memories I make with it have yet to be shared, but one thing is for sure, this knife has a special place in my collection and she has a special place in my heart.

The character in the scales still gets me!

Wonderful write up and great shots of that beauty. The more I see those purple 72s the more I am convinced they would look great with a nice used patina, especially with the character found on those such as yours.

Now, you have a beautiful girl who lets you hunt and is buying you knives....I think it's time to put a ring on her hand.:D

In all seriousness she sounds like a keeper to me. :)

Fantastic write up for a fantastic knife. I'm so glad to see more of these purple 72s show up on the forums. I remember the initial push back when WIP pictures went up in GECs website. The brass really pops with that purple! You're a very lucky man to receive such a knife from your girlfriend. I've dropped hints and lists around the house for 2 years and still haven't received a knife from my wife! Haha.

What an awesome girlfriend you have! [emoji106] That knife is absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing your story. I enjoyed it very much. Have fun with your new knife!

I totally agree with you on them changing colors in the sunlight Johnny. That is why 2 of my extended family have expressed a desire to get one for Christmas .
And that is why I , for right now , have 3 of them.

Three out of three of these are just as smooth as silk to use .
Very glad that you are liking yours my friend . You need to hold onto that girl !!!

Great story Johnny. I agree with the consensus that you got a keeper there. Your girl and your knife. thanks for sharing.

Nice write-up, and congratulations on your new knife :)

:thumbup:Johnnytwoshoes, love my purple. It is not only the color but the variations of the bone that give these knives character.

Great story and memories, Caleb! I've never been one for flashy colors on knives, but I have to admit, that purple is a looker.

And as others have said, that girlfriend of yours is a keeper!

Don't let go of that gem! .......... Oh, and the knife is quite nice too. ;)

Great review and story Johnny.
Even your prowess with the camera and thats saying something is unable to make me want the violet colour.
The characterful aspects of the knife are beyond doubt.
It just goes to show how individually important aesthetics are.
Cheers.
