I have seen pictures of Buck 303's and 301's with different colored handles. If I remember correctly, I have seen yellow, blue, red, green, and maybe white. Where do you find these? I only see black ones. I would really like to add the different colors to my collection. Thanks for any information.
Larry

I'll let the 300 experts answer correctly but those colors arent in production anymore far as I know and have seen available. to get requires finding good used or collected not used examples. so hunt the private collector markets would be your best bet.

There has been a 300 series in both red and yellow, a Boone and Crockett 309, 303, and 301 in green, and a BCCI 301 offering in white but I don't think I have ever seen anything in blue. Below is some information, which does not include any Chinese made knives, that is in a previous thread regarding the 303 ONLY. Currently, the only USA made 300's, which is now apparently limited to just the 303 and 301, is black sawcut Valox and woodgrain. You will need to search the secondary market for the others.

That is a nice collection.

I wish Buck would bring out more colors in the 300 series. While black is probably my favorite, yellow and orange rank up there because of visibility.

Tin Sue, you didn't list the smooth black Delrin 303. Is that because it was a really limited run?

That might be because the smooth black Delrin (actually Valox) was not out at the time that particular post was made or perhaps it was just an omission. In any case, it certainly should be added to the list; there was also a smooth black 305, 309, and 301 as well.

Two 301's not mentioned a bone and malachite scale and a ironwood and mammoth tooth one also. As stated all the "other" colors can only be found in the used or aftermarket. That's a big part of the hunt is the hunting. I believe even the ink printed advertising blade sawcut black models are declining as folks shy away from the small traditional folding knives. 300

There was this hoof print bone 301 also.....more for the hunt. I will predict no one will get them all (I won't) but it's all about the attempt

The Grey Diamondwood scales.

Finally found one of the lost Green and Bone knife photo mentioned above.

Thanks for all the replies. It just seems like offering them in more colors would mean more sales. I mean Ford doesn't only offer their F150 in black. Obviously, this is tongue in cheek, but...........

Gut wrenching truth...It's all about market and sales. Folders are either modern clips, 110's or "others". Others are for pocket knife guys who use and abuse them and generally won't pay a premium for a nice scaled one. It's sort of like a Model T rather than a F150. Sales of sawcut black scale 301s and 303s are in hundreds of thousands +. 10,000 yellow scales are just a blip. Sometimes they reward folks like you and me with a blip but folks are drifting away from pocket folders and want 'clips'. Watch at a gun or knife show and see how many clips you see in folks pockets. Glance don't stare...… 300Bucks

Henry Ford once said people can get a Model T in any color they want as long as it's black. That's only partially true. When the Model T first came out in 1908, several colors were available. However, by 1914 Ford had refined his assembly line method and black was the only paint that dried quickly enough. As a result, black was the only color used from 1914 through 1926.

As an aside, one of my grandfathers worked for Ford before the introduction of the Model T. My great grandmother told her son, "That contraption of Henry's is never going to amount to anything. You need to get a real job." My grandfather left Ford and went into banking. Here is a photo of the first payroll for Ford Motor Company in July, 1903.

Yeah, Spyderco was the first company to put a pocket clip on a knife. It was a practical idea and really caught on. However, there are still a lot of us that, while we appreciate the knives, we don't use the clips. I personally think selecting the right colors would go a long way to increasing popularity of actual pocket knives. Flat Dark Earth, Desert Sand, Forest Green, Foliage Green, Orange, and etc. would be really nice. I'll take a FDE and a FG, please.

I carry a large Vantage fairly often. The first thing I did was remove the clip, and I carry it in my back pocket.

Bert
I do use the clips on some knives, but mostly I remove them. If I am in the woods there is a good chance that the clip will catch on something, pull the knife out, and leave me knifeless.
