Can't hardly believe I just ordered a Cold Steel Colossus 2 !

Really disliked this design when it first came out and I'm still not entirely sure I'm gonna love it "in hand " .

But recently I have developed an interest in wide blades that are relatively short . This certainly fits . The overall design is also something new and different from anything else I have already .

Just couldn't resist this for ~$100 , on Cold Steel's Special Projects site, Summer Sale :

Have any of you others experienced a total reversal and ended up ordering a blade that you never could have imagined you'd want ?

wow, nice find - it's hard to resist at that price, but it's really somewhat gigantic - 6" handle, 4" blade, and 7.2oz - total monster lol
it's a folding nessmuk in actual fact, which is cool all on it's own

That is a great looking knife and “folding nessmuk” is an apt description. It looks very useful.

I have never been a fan of the mythical handle to blade ratio perpetuated by “knowledgeable” internet experts. I want a knife I can actually get me hand on and use with gusto, if I must.

May not be the most practical EDC but it's damn cool with that crazy wide, slicey blade. Cold Steel's XHP is done right and performs very well. I also like it when CS uses 3D machined g-10 rather than flat scales. And if the ergos aren't perfect for your hand you can easily reshape the g-10.
I also couldn't resist when the Colossus first went on sale.

Yeah, I want one too. I know I can justify either a Colossus or a Holdout 1, but not both. Pity the price is because they are on closeout, might not have a chance to pick up the other one later.

Hey, you can also use it to paddle your canoe... Oddly enough, I like those things. Don't have one. Probably won't have one. But I like them.

I think I like the handle.
Look at it this way; at the very least it will make you appreciate all of your other knives even more.
Table tennis anyone ?
It is cool though. Nothing wrong with buying a knife that you like just to have. I've done that . . . even found at least one I bought to look at and started using it because it was a good user.

and . . . if you don't like it at all you can make at least two more knives out of the extra steel in the blade. ;)

I am embarrassed to say I thought the blade on the Gayle Bradley 1 was all wrong for me and was just dumb.
It wasn't all wrong or dumb but I was. It's a keeper.

Cold Steel says : "If you can't go long go wide".

I don't know what that has to do with knives but keep chanting . . . it may help or give a clue as to what to do with it once you get it.

When I feel the need for long and/or wide I grab my Twistmaster with large leaf shaped blade.
