Greetings this is my first visit on this forum. It certainly appears to be very intersting and informative.
1.What are the pins and springs made of in my 703? I thought the pins were Nickel Silver but the coloration seeme to be different than the bolsters.
2.A guy yesterday in a local sporting goods store was telling his new Buck Stockman was made in Mexico, this info was on the box it came in. Just curious, is that true?

Thanks, Mike

As someone who's looking to buy a two-blade folder (709 Yearling perhaps), I'm also interested in the answers to these questions. Mexico?
Also, I read somewhere recently that the new knives in the 700 series don't have the "Buck" handle shield. True? Thanks in advance for your help.

Man, I really hate to see the "Mexico" question sit here unanswered. Joe?

according to bucks catalog the pins and bolsters are made of nickel silver

Sorry for the delay folks, its been a zoo around here!
Yes, we have our 300 series assembled in Mexico now. Actually since we are located so close to the border and a large portion of our work force is hispanic anyway, it does not bother me. I hope this does not come across in a negative way, i certainly mean no disrespect. Several of our VERY long time employees actually live in Mexico and drive up here everyday. The components are still made "up here" and they are still held to the same high quality standards. In fact, our Quality personel visit the plant at least 2 times a week to keep the communication going.

All the new 703's etc Ive seen in the new edge 2000 boxes, Do not have the sheilds anymore...Which I really like! Looks much nicer now.
The sheild is the only reason in the past I would never buy one, they just looked cheap to me.
The 703 model is my personal favorite

Keith,
My experience has told me that folks have strong opinions about shields in general. A while back we changed the shield on the 300 series. It used to show the hammer, knife and nail logo but we changed it to say BUCK. We had a lot of complaints and had to change it back! I am anxious to see how the new 700's without any sheild do.

I have a 303 with jigged bone handles and a small round shield which looks very nice. The 700 series would look great with this shield. You could take the "Limited Edition" off and just use the shield. I like a shield on a knife but the ones on the 700s is up side down with the knife sitting on its spine. Also, I think the 700s would look more balanced with the nail pull more in the center on the blade like the 703.

My daily carry is a 701 Bronco stockman and I like it just fine without the shield, and actually prefer my knives like that. I think it takes away from the beauty of the handle scale material.
