While searching for fixed blade knives, I came across a very attractive Colt hunting knife for $70. I clicked on it expecting the blade to be carbon or high grade stainless, but it turned out to be 420J2.

For $70???

I would expect to see such a knife selling for about $17.95 on some junk sales website selling crappy Chinese knives, but Colt has a good name, and while I don't expect gun company knives to be up to par with their guns, I certainly wouldn't expect a trash stainless like 420J2!

Who buys these things? And do they expect someone who hunts and lives in the great outdoors to pay that much for a knife that should be made from a decent grade of stainless?

What's going on? And why is the quality of generally decent grade quality knives plunging like they are? Is it steel prices? Greed? Poor management? Stupidity?

It's too bad, really.

I paid about 15$ for mine. "CT17" stainless China, which is ironic because the sheath says "Colt - Made in USA"

Good knife either way though. Wouldn't pay MSRP for it, but for what I paid I'm content. It's a skinner model with a finger choil, not sure what model.
