Today I decided to "antique" the bolsters and shields of these colts and add a matte/brushed finish. I really like how they came out. I should probably patina the tang stamps and nail nicks and finish the blades the same way (but I might not get around to that). I used Brass Black, and a combination of 800 wet/dry and a fine abrasive wheel on my flex shaft.

Here's a before pic:

It's fun playing around with inexpensive knives.

Very much an improvement. Great job on those. It's subtle, but significant.

Brushed bolsters definitely change the look of a knife. Nice work!

some nice work...real uniform brushing on the bolsters. And taking off the shine on the covers is always an improvement on the RR/colts.

Many, many thanks! I've brushed all of the blades with 800 grit and they look better. The teardrop jack is my favorite and I'm toying with the idea of adding an ez open notch to that one.
