??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
How tight was the factory bevel ? Was it insanely tight ? Off the hook , cut snake , tight ?
I reground the edge , and ......... The bevel was so tight I was not sure I could match it , or even come close to it !
So I reground the edge at what I imagined might be around 20 something degrees .. It was not .. It was a crazy tight regrind that was no where near as tight as the factory edge !
Fail was about 250 slices ..
I then wood stropped the edge and processed some fat wood .
That SA35 bit the wood hard . scary hard .. I became very tentative and nervous processing the fatwood .
Striking the ferro was good . But it's a big knife ( 7 1/4 inch blade ) and that makes small spaces difficult to work in .
But it did it .
Factory bevel = FUBAR in the worst sense ! What freak of nature ground that edge ?
My regrind which is no where near as tight , came out at fourteen degrees .
You read that right ! So what the hell was the factory bevel ? Maybe ten degrees or less ..
That's just silly stupid ! I guess these things happen when you buy a budget knife , hu ?
So next time at the rope , the edge will be 60 grit ground and at fourteen degrees !
For those in Oz , the Columbia range can be purchased local ( Australia )
