Combat boot recommendations?

Hey everyone,

I've worn Doc Martens for years on a daily basis for just about everything short of long walks/hiking (due to discomfort); most recently those have been their Made in England line but those are finally wearing out. So at this point I'm looking for a good value, comfortable, and durable classic black leather combat boot for a motorcycle/walkabout/hiking/day-to-day boot. Ideally I'd like to find something made in either Canada or the USA with a price that won't totally break the bank. Does anyone have some recommendations for a do-it-all brand and model? I've been looking at the Corcoran 978 boot or the Corcoran Field Boot so far and they seem to have some positive reviews. Danner also looks like a good brand but they're unfortunately a little out of my price range at the moment.

I've got a pair of Matterhorn 1999s that I really like. Not sure if they are warm enough for you though.

Buy some cheap RAT boots from LAPolicegear...they are 39 bucks right now normally 300. They are the replacement of the defective ones. So you should be ok with them. I got a pair and they were much nicer then I thought!

I wear 6 in 5 11 boots daily, check out what they have to offer, they retail under 100 dollars for the pair I have, most comfortable pair of every day shoes/boots Iv had.

I go through boots fairly often and have tried LOTS of different ones. If you can hold off, save for the danners, you won't be dissappointed. We put them through heck and they just ask for more.

if you're looking for smooth black leather boots, try the Altama standard issue speed lacer boots with the vulcanized sole.
can be found at mil-surp stores under $70. Drop in a good set of insoles and you should be good to go for quite some time.
if it doesn't have to be smooth black leather, the RAT boots are good kit.

Last deployment had me in a pair of danners and SOLE heat moldable insoles. www.yoursole.com I've also done a year wearing the same pair of beevilles with the SOLE insoles. I've got high arches, so there is no need to heat mold them, but as a guy who spends at least eight hours a dar "standing" watch, I will never stand again in a pair of boots without the Sole insoles. Night and day as far as I can tell.

I have a pair of Ft. Lewis Go-Devils by Danner i wouldn't let go of for nothing. Great boots that hold up well for a long time.

Too bad Danners are out of your range. I bought a pair of the Ft Lewis boots before my '96 deployment to Bosnia and still wear them. Belleville makes a good, comfortable combat boot.

I buy Magnums from the local police outfitters. Have had three pairs;fabulous fit and comfort. I buy the waterproof ones and rotate them. My first pair is still serviceable after 5 years of usage. Combined with wool socks and liners for outdoor use and you are good to go.

I don't actually need a pair of boots at the moment. But $260 off was too good a deal to pass up.

My buddy Jody had a pair of these that he wore for a couple of years in Iraq and then for a couple of years in the ship yard with me, so I know that they're tough and well made.

Also, keep an eye out for going out of business, or weird deals. I bought a pair of Danners (Hawk GTX gortex 200 gram, airbob sole) for $79 at a going out of business sale!!!!!!

I got a pair of Cableas version of the Mountain light hiker in gortex for $80!!!! These have been my favorite boots ever, for everything. Motorcycle riding, hiking, camping, just kicking around town! When the Cableas finally wear out, I will be replacing them with the Danner Light hiker II.
