Has anyone else had their RRF wear prematurely and develope blade play? I would send it back, but its trans-Atlantic and if this is normal there doesn't seem much point. Mind you, 0.050 - 0.075" blade play is a pain. I thought that these things were meant to be tough, and seeing as how I have treated it with care I am at a loss to understand why it has worn so.

Thanks for any advice

Chris

I would contact the seller and see about getting it fixed AND reimbursed for the shipping (or at least only have to pay one way)...thats simply unnaceptable in a knife of that calibre. I handled one at the Chicago Custom Knife Show and it seemed excellent (almost bought...but a different item caught my eye...)...but that was without any carry/use- I would definitely try to get it fixed...

Could you expalin both the play and what I'm seeing?

Is the bladed play side to side (horizontal) or verticle?

I see coating worn off the blade, which I'm not surpsrised, and what looks like alot of wear in the handles themselves. Where are the washers?

First let me apologize for your knife problem.

The coating will always wear off.

Is the pin worn? If so I will send you 5 of them to make sure its not ever a problem again.

Just send your address.

We have never had any wear problems so I would like to send you the funds to return the pins if you would by mail.

What will it cost to ship?

To stop any future problems of this kind, we will be manufacturing our round hardware in house very soon.

Thanks.

DaveH. The play is side to side when viewed from the top. When the knife is shut the blade is pushed way over by the locking bar so it almost rubs on the slab. The washers seem completely unworn, or at least they are both the same thickness all the way around.

Which is the most critical fit on a knife like this?

Darryl, thank you for the offer of pins. Would it be alright for me to send the whole knife to you to have a look at? The pin is worn a little, just enough to feel in one place. Mostly it just seems that the black has come off. Not sure if that's enough to affect anything? If you reckon it shouldn't have play and could be fixable I am happy to send it over to see what you think.

Sure we will be glad to look at the knife and re-tune it to new condition.
The black coating will come off of the wear parts.
Most often this does not cause a problem.
You may have to teak the pivot to keep the blade play to a minimum but thats about it.
