I recently acquired a doublecut and coated ash1. The weights in hand are remarkably different. The coated blade feels significantly heavier, both having magnum machined micarta and both Combat grade.

I can only assume it is due to the coating, but IMO, coating alone might not make that noticeable of a difference.

Does anyone out there have weights of a combat grade ASH 1 before and after coating removal?

Thanks

My first thought would have been different steel thickness, not coating - what the heck do they put in that stuff?

OK...

Two (identical) Coated w/G10 Mags ... 636 (22.43oz) and 630 (22.22 oz) grams (both are .32 black blade and B&T G10)

Double Cut with G10 (looking close to make sure that are not black paper but I believe G10) Mags 606 grams (21.38oz)

Coated, Sabre Ground, Canvas Mags ... 660grams (23.28oz)

Coated G10 Standards ... 610 grams (21.51oz)

Double cut mag micarta: 20.7 oz
Coated tigerhide mag micarta: 21.6 oz

Does that seem right?
It might. There may be more finishing required on the double cut blade before it's blasted and the blasting itself removes some material although I don't imagine that makes a significant difference. Then add the weight of the coating and the difference of an ounce between the double cut and the coated blade doesn't seem that far out of line.
