Combat Karambit Blade Tip Change?

I was just poking around the Emerson site and noticed that the Combat Karambit looks to have the same blade tip as the Super Karambit. When was this change made?
 
I like the looks of new combat karambit tip - still plenty pointy, but stronger than the needle sharp tip on my 2004 kbit. Might be an optical illusion, but the radius seems less 'curvy' on the 2015 kbit blade. Now I want a 2015 kbit too.
 
Are there any real advantages in the new karambit tip change? I have the "older" model combat karambit with the needle tip that I carry for SD. What tip would be best in a SD situation? Should I upgrade to the newer model?

When it comes to defensive use, either one will work, since when the tip grabs and engages, it will want to constantly grip and tear. In terms of strength, the new tip will be stronger, since it's got more support via the spine of the blade; compared to the older model (like we have) that has that constant curvature to it.
