Combat Karambit concern...

So I recently a stonewash combat karambit, it is all good except the ring portion. The G10 is not glued all the way to he liners I guess since I can sort of pry it about 1-2mm apart, enough to slip a piece of paper in between.

While this does not really bother me, I am afraid this may get worse with use since I edc this knife. I do some moderate use of this, so I am worried that the liner may crack or something.

I live in New Zealand, so sending it back to EKI will cost me roughly $30 plus $10 or so for insurance, so quite pricey for something that should have been checked before being shipped out.

Thanks

The G-10 is not glued to the liners, nor should it be. It is held together with the liners by the screws.

Best Regards,
Nick

that gap will get worse. inherent in the design of it. not a big deal though.

Thanks for that, I might just actually see if I can get a spacer put in the ring to give it a more solid feel and eliminate the gap altogether. What do you guys think? Is this possible at all?

thats exactly what i did.

It's "performing as designed." I really wouldn't worry about it unless there is a visible gap without you trying to pry it apart. I'm not sure how adding a spacer will help the specific issue you're addressing; the G10 still won't be attached to the titanium liner.

@ Awad, that looks amazing! Did you do it yourself or did you send it to someone?

@ Burke, I'm hoping that a spacer will fit just right so that the liner has no room to move from between the G10 and the spacer. No inward movement, no gap :)

I love Reese Weiland's replacement ring with skullcrusher.

You could also go with a titanium framelock. :)

No need to be concerned. Your knife sounds perfect! No glue have ever been used on an Emerson folder. Your "gap" should not widen. And titanium will not crack. Your knife is perfect. All of that being said, backspacers that fill the open space are COOL! This is mine. :)

i had a "simple" aluminum spacer made for mine as well.

more to keep dirt and gunk out of the knife. it never occurred to me the rings would separate from the g10, but this is the second i have read of this in as many days.

this is something I could also replicate on the 2 different karambits that I previously owned and carried, but never was a problem. the gap problem did not worsen.

I do like the look of the spacer awad posted!

3 year old thread? You can try contacting some of the scale makers on the forums to make you a spacer.

Yeah- this is a first for me on the karambit. I wasn't aware of the space or a spacer mod - should have known! I think some people would mod a paperclip to make it look cooler.

My wife is pushing me hard for both of us to start carrying these. While I can maybe see the thinking in her wanting one. . .I would have to convince myself that I could get some utility use out of it. Just doesn't make sense to me to spend that jack for pocket look. Nice spacer mod though.

Well it had some real good pics in in it and after sorting through a bunch of threads on the matter, this one seemed most appropriate. After all I hear people getting annoyed that folks don't use the search function ;).

This presents a good opportunity to customize that knife. Some GITD material, CF, wood, or straight G10 material would look right at home on that baby.

I was thinking about getting a piece of aluminum and try to work something up. I like the idea of a skull crusher but possibly disguised as a thumb ramp. the jimping on the back of that one above looks awesome.

@benchwarmer380

Thanks for the info. You should probably let the mods worry about running the site though. This thread has relevant information to the topic in it and even has pictures what I'm looking for.
