Combat Knife

Well, It would not surprise me if Marines were no longer issued knives. I do know that Ontario got the latest contract for combat knives, but I am not sure who gets issued them. I had a supply sergeant friend in the Air Force who got me combat and air force survival knives. We were at war and occassionally in danger, but I was never "issued" one.

Many years later when I was an Army officer, I carried a Gerber Mk 2. I had to hide it when we were "in garrison". Apparently I could be trusted with 17 fully loaded M-60 tanks, but not sharp objects. That was along time ago, but political correctness was creeping in. I'll bet the terrorists in Iraq don't have to worry about such silliness.

By the way, the Next Generation Ka-Bar is nice, as is the Impact Combat with D-2 steel. I have both, but I am a civilian now. Still feels good to be armed and dangerous.

I was under the impression that some Marines were issued a Strider.

I thought that only the USMC SOCOM Detachment 1 recieved those (special SMFs) but I also read that Mick got a huge government order in for fixed blades (JBs, BDs, and DB-Ls) and that's why he wasn't in Chicago for the show over the weekend. I didn't hear where those were slotted for though.

The SOCOM detachment Marines are (or at least were) issued a Strider SMF. Ontario has the current bayonet contract for the Marine Corp.
