I am in the market for a new pack for long day trips and also to take shooting. I came across this Combat XII Pack which looks great for my purpose and as the extra carrying space on top for additional mags. I am wondering what everyone would suggest for a pack that can hold a hydration bladder, some food, and other small necessities.

Thats a cool bag  it seems pretty small but if it's just a range bag, that would probably be just the thing u need :)

U should check out some of the small bags from eberlestock, kifaru, tactical tailor, higher end camelback, and the lightspeed from triple aught design, there's way too many cool new bags :D

I know maxpedition is real popular on this forum and thy are a nice bag, but it seems like once you're already spending that amount of money, u can get a nicer bag with more features for not too much more... Good luck!! :)

jbob24 has a great list there. Mystery Ranch does a good pack, though the price is large.
The Becker Patrol Pack will likely work for your needs.

I've got an Eberlestock that I've taken lots of places and it has held up great. Has a rifle scabbard built in to the back that also doubles as a great laptop holder when you're not using it for its intended purpose. It also has water bladder capabilities and can hold plenty of things for a day trip. I believe the model I have is a gunslinger II but they make them in several different configurations and sizes.

A couple more: check out the smaller goruck bags and the ECP from first spear. :)

Thanks much appreciated, I will go through their pack listings for each manufacturer. Any experience with Blue Force Gear or SORD Packs? I am actually looking for something in A-TACS as I just got a DPMS Rifle in the camouflage. I guess it isn't of the utmost importance, but I like the camo.

If you specifically want atacs, go http://a-tacs.com/where-to-buy/ here and see whats available :)

I didn't look through the list too hard but didnt see much that looked good other than the ares armor bags you already posted about... Good luck :)

I haven't used SORD stuff, but it's high recommended by Aussie diggers and issued to Aussie SF.

Great to hear, I thought I heard they were Australian somewhere. I will check out that ATACS site for their vendors, didn't realize they had that. Makes things much simpler.

Not to knock the SORD stuff, cuz it looks nice, but once you spend that money on the bag + getting it to the US, you've already dropped enough money to buy a premium USA-made bag :)

EDIT: maybe, I assumed that you were in the US, if not then your experience may vary :)

ok first on the bag you posted: I have seen alot of similar designs while i was in afghanistan and alot of guys i know used those types of packs for short range patrols. They are designed to integrate into body armor. That is their selling point and the straps are just an after thought which makes them very uncomfortable for regular use.

Heres what i would do instead: Kifaru and mystery ranch make exceptional packs no doubt about it, i own two kifarus and have plenty of buddies that used them afghanistan, as well as the mystery ranch packs. they are rock solid. however seeing what you seem to be into i would go for an eberlestock, maybe one of their gunslinger models or their x1a. Eberlestock packs dont get discussed much on this forum as they are more intended for dedicated sniping and tactical use but they are just amazing packs, i have abused the holy hell out of my eberlestock packs and they look almost new they perform better than they have any right to espeacially seeing as how they are sold for 100 dollars or more less than their mm and kifaru counterparts. also look into source hydration systems as an alternate to camelbak bladders, they are just so much nicer and the fact that they can open at the top completley to just dump ice or water bottles in makes them a life saver on short notice patrols. i really cant say enough good stuff about any of these bags its just that eberlestock doesnt get the recognition they deserve, oh also some guys really liked diamondback tactical for smller packs.

I understand that SORD has a US shop too. But yes, I do wish that international postage didn't hurt the hip pocket nerve so much...

check out stuff from condor. They are made in china >=/ but i picked up a 1 day pack from a gun show for 45 bucks and 3 years later still carry it everyday. I was so supprisingly impressed with it I bought a 3day assult pack and use that for longer trips. # day pack was only 75$. Great packs!!!!

I don't want anything that large. Just something for a good day pack. I have an Alice pack for longer trips.
