Hi everyone - - I've done a little searching on this, but thought I'd post this question here rather than 'reinvent the wheel", if at all possible. - - I'm looking for a sheath for my Mountaineer II. I would like to be able to carry it on a belt - horizontal, verticle, or cross draw - as conditions dictate. I would also like to be able to take it off my belt and quickly/easily attach rigging that would allow me to carry the knife handle up for when fishing/hunting with waders. - - I've contacted one kydex sheath maker and he said he couldn't make one sheath that would do this. Wanting to keep the weight/bulk of my gear down as much as possible (especially when back-packing into high country lakes) - I'd prefer that I only carry one sheath with multiple carry options. Can anyone point me in the right direction ? (If the existing factory leather sheath could be used that would even be better - but this may not be possible.) Hopefully a maker that has done this for a Mountaineer II, or at least a CRK fixed blade ? I prefer not to send my knife away if at all possible. - - - Thanks, - -

The only one I know right now is Piter M from Poland. He makes great sheaths for CRK fixed blades but I'm not sure if he is accepting orders. He did a great job for The Knife Collector.

Also Normark might be able to help, his stuff is awesome too. ;)

I saw PiterM stuff posted here and it looks awesome - - also read that he was taking a little break for family time. Would love to have him put together something. There's a guy up in Alaska who does leather pancake holsters for guns that can also be set up to wear inside the pants or on the chest - - - that's the concept I'm looking for. I'll also check out Normark. Thank you, - -

Thanks guys for the info on PiterM's stuff - - can you tell me how long it took him to get your sheaths to you ? He's in Poland, was that difficult/expensive to get shipped to you ? How about the whole payment thing? I'm in the U.S. - - Regards, - -

Sounds like a tek-lok would take care of your belt options. The tek-lok makes it easy to get off of your belt for positioning elsewhere, but changing horizontal/vertical/cross draw might require fiddling with two screws - about 5 minutes. I'm not sure what you have in mind for waders - vertical attachment to a belt? to the shoulder strap on hip waders? A teklok would take care of any strap attachment needs you might have. Otherwise, you could rig up a piece of cord tied to the top of your sheath and sling it under-arm. It shouldn't be a problem to have two grommets at the top of the sheath to allow for this. You might be able to make a better lanyard with snap hooks and webbing, or some other hardware, but I'm not sure how much extra you're willing to carry.

Two kydex options in the US are Okuden and Buy Brown. I'm not sure if either of them has a Mountaineer on hand, but it's worth asking. Even sending them one might be faster/cheaper than waiting for a sheath from Poland (though Pitre's work is probably worth the wait). I've used Okuden for my kydex, and his sheaths are well made, with multiple attachment options for the teklok. I haven't used BuyBrown, but lots of his work shows up on the forums.

Tohatchi NM - - thanks for your suggetions - - I kinda was thinking the same thing about using a teklok - Heck if it came down to it, guess I could use a nylon belt like an Uncle Mike's and wear it bandoleer style - - I could then tie down the sheath running para-cord though any eyelets provided. I was hoping for something a little more refined and turn key - - but something jury rigged and ugly looking may do the job till I find something better. - - - Thanks again, - -
