Unfortunatly the knife I'm looking only has combo or PE as options but I'm asking in general what do you like fully SE or PE or combo???

If you like the combo is it 50/50 or 70/30 or what?

If you want to be specific I'm looking at an 806D2 but please answer the in general question too.

Thanks for helping me out with this one!

I generaly prefer plain. I gave my dad my combo AFCK in ATS-34 and kept the plain M2 AFCK for myself. So far the only exception to my liking plain is on Spyderco Civilians where I prefer the Serrations. :)

Take it frm this ol' "dog face" (I
was an 11Bravo (infantry)); when I was on TDY I carried a Gerber Command II (this baby was not a "typical" dagger ; it had one full length plain edge, and on the other side about 1" of serrations, no sharpened edge after those. A STRANGE "bird" IMO ) but, partial serrations give a knife, IMO more
versatility. At least from a military standpoint. Don't have the Command II anymore (that was 19yrs ago!;)) but I got myself a CRKT Ryan
"Plan B" with partial serrations.
I'd go for 50/50 if it were my call;) Just my two cents, gang!

In past I thought that the combo got in the way because I'd be trying to cut somthing with the PE and it would move along the blade and start into the SE which would mess up my cut. However I've been thinking resently that this is a cominantion of things that are my fault first I need to control what I'm cutting and te knife second I need to keep the PE sharper and use the SE for the ruff cuts... I'm I right in this thinking or am I a nut case? what do you guys think?

I prefer Plain Edge, then Combo, the Fully Serrated. Mainly for sharpening reasons and appearance. However there are certain knife styles where I would only want SE, such as a Harpy. Depends on the blade style, But ussually I will hunt out a Plain Edge.

I like a plain-edge on my "utility" knives, and a fully-serrated edge on my defensive/offensive knives. The plain-edge makes a "cleaner" cut and is more versatile for "everyday" cutting chores, where the fully serrated edge is better for ripping and "slashing".

As far as a combo-edge goes...Unless the "combo-edge" is on a pretty darn long blade, you don't have enough serrations OR enough of a plain edge to do a good job either way.

PE, SE or CE? I'm for "combo" as the knife (what am I sayin'? DAGGER!;))
I carried in the Army had one straight & one 1" worth of serrations ( no more edge on that side though, a dagger? Oh, well.)
prove both their mettle on a single knife/dagger. I notice alot of military fixed blades of late have "combo" edges.;)

Thanx for your uplifting e-mail, my
former Deputy Sheriff ( a RESPECTIBLE Law Enforcement title that dates back to the "wild west" or is that "old west"? ) friend, the notable glockman99 (niner-niner;))

On with the debate,guys!

I'm going through this debate myself with my SOG X-Ray...at times, I want to do a "sawing" action to get through tougher materials, but it hits the serrated part...now, it's not THAT big of a deal (it cuts faster:p), it just makes it 'messy'. I really don't know where to stand at this point. If it was up to me, I'd carry a fixed blade (dagger type) with a different edge on each side, such as a SOG Pentagon. I think that is by far the best way to fly, IMO:)
