The task: an HVAC work week to include service calls ranging from commercial to residential
Likely to involve Residential installations and duct work
Duct work will be built from duct board and flex duct, maybe a few sheet-metal fittings that need to be insulated
Our company does electrical work as well which will be standard residential to include
rough in, trim out, service calls, possibly some marine electrical on docks, marinas, and small craft (inverters, breakers, controls, and the like)
Tons of standard EDC tasks like cutting string and tape, opening boxes, trimming little weeds, etc.

#1 has been carried roughly a month and will be the default if other options don't recieve "overwhelming" votes

Outlier, combo any folder with any fixed (pictured)

Based upon your intended use, the Tanto for sure, can use in tight places and even palm hit the butt if needed, it’s not going to flex under hard use either. The Grey Spyderco will show up better just incase it gets dropped in dimly lit areas. Both knives are easily used with either hand and large enough to add your off hand for additional cutting pressure if needed. Keep the Wharny in your ditty bag as a backup.

Lol, see that's what I'm dealing with, the Tanto is hard to get away from because it's both a compact tool and a tough tool, and the wharncliffe is precise and sharp. As a knife guy, part of me wants to work in some variety, but as HVAC guy the toughness of a Tanto in 3V and the sharpness and utility of a Delica in HAP 40 is difficult to break away from.

I appreciate
I'd go with a SAK trekker. All the tools you'll ever need.
Rich
I appreciate your input, but that, to me, is more of a tool to carry when I'm severely limited on what I can carry.
In this case, I have a van, a back pack, tool pouch, and heavy 5.11 cargo pants I can utilize to carry tools.
Definitely a "right tool for the job" vs. "a handful of tools to cover most tasks" situation.
It may seem counter-intuitive but a lot of tradesman, myself included, have no real need or desire for multi-tools because we
already have all the tools on a multi in full size/ dedicated version.

Just on my hip/ person I already have wire strippers, phillips head, flat head, 5/16" 1/4" combo driver, linesman pliers, serrated hawkbill,
combo. thermostat screwdriver with two more phillips, tiny flat head, and schrader valve tool.
That doesn't include a well stocked back pack typically no more than 3 feet away if not on my back.

Fully agree

I’m gonna go with #1 or substitute the folder in #2 for the wharnie. I’ve never carried a true wharncliffe folder so I can’t fully speak for them. I’ve carried Klein stripping knives(fixed blade), and razor(utility) knives. I’m a huge fan of the Crk insingo shape, haven’t used a utility knife in years because of the insingo. The folder in #2 is somewhat insingo-ish to me. With all that rambling I think I’m gonna go with the tanto fixed blade and folder in #2. You still get some belly that way.

KH, take it from 2 guys who have used their knives at work the same way you have done, and give it a try.

Your last picture shows you already got them paired up.

just curious, what else do you carry because none of those choices look like they get used

The Tanto and Wharncliffe keep getting mentioned. I have a pretty good idea of what works ;)
I'm sure some will know what I mean when I say it can be VERY difficult to decide on what to carry when you have plenty of choices and a winning combo in the pocket already.
I know none of these choices are particularly bad and that's why I asked particularly knowledgeable knife folks for help.
Thank all y'all for the responses so far. :)
Really appreciate responses from Retired UPS Driver Retired UPS Driver Dcdavis Dcdavis Murphjd25 Murphjd25 who I'm sure understand exactly what I'm going to need a blade for.
With that said, screw it! :p:D:D
I'm thinking I might carry folder/fixed combo 1-4, Monday-Thursday and maybe decide on my favorite pairing for Friday and my call weekend.
If nothing else, my posts to the EDC thread will be more interesting than the same knife every time.
Might bring a knife bag and change knives every doggone service call if I want!:D
