Thought that I'd post a recommendation of this incredible film that I borrowed from the local library this week.
Directed By Elem Klimov, "Come And See" has to be one of the most powerful war films ever made, it tells the story of a young White Russian who goes of to join the partisans fighting against the Germans in 1943 Byelorus.
If you rent this movie stay with it 'cause it builds slowly at first as the green young partisan is introduced to the horrors of modern warfare and ethnic cleansing. Apparently Klimov used real ordanance and ammunition to achive the stunning effects in this harrowing film.
I'd love to hear the opinions of any of you lot who've seen it. Everyone else, "Come And See".

One would think by 1943 all of the White Russians would have been dead or exiled, maybe even fighting on the side of the Germans ?

Seems to have excellent reviews all around. Wonder why I never saw it. (Probably at sea at the time)

Thanks for bringing it up. I'll see about seeing it.

The movie tells us that in Byelorus alone 628 villages where wiped out in the manner portayed therein, same story for much of Eastern Europe I suppose, extermination, slave labour etc, and yes, there where many who sided with the Germans.
