You lucky bastids! Have some sympathy for those of us a little closer to the equator. :grumpy:

I'm looking forward to it and I'm as ready as I'll ever be. With the winds, the leaves are almost gone and now looking at bare trees.

The best part of cold and snow: No more tick bites and reaching under or picking things up without checking for snakes first.. :D

You don't have snow snakes down there? I see one or two every season up here.;)

It was 93 here yesterday. I don't know what you're talking about.

No, but back in the day when we were kids, we would walk in the Snow to School in the tracks left by the milk trucks up hill both ways. :D

Winter is when So Cal turns green. (It's brown in summer.)

So we like winter, too.

I just checked the thermometer, 1:50am and it's 79 degrees. Winter isn't the proper term for December in south Florida, so, I can't wait for the far too short cool period that I know is coming!

A-ah-ahh-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah
We come from the land of the ice and snow
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow

This reminds me: I better check the Generator to make sure it's up and running.

Once or twice a winter season, I find myself on the ground and behind me, I notice the tell-tale trail of the dreaded "snow-snake". That long, squiggly line in the snow/ice behind me where the snake grabbed the heal of one shoe and slid it out from under me.;)

The Snow Snakes habitat in PA is in the trees, where they lay and wait, lurking till the wind comes along and then they put the drop on you. :D

We have some ice forming on the beaver ponds, freeze up comes later each year by a few days.

Got down well into the thirties last night around here. Made it into the high twenties in some areas. SHS, you should head a little further south I think. Bring on the snow! :p

MD/PA state line. I was glad to drive south into the high twenties!

The long cold grasp of winter will come soon enough here in Minnesota. So far, so good - compared to the famous Halloween Blizzard of 1991.

"Across much of eastern Minnesota, trick-or-treaters donned snowmobile suits as snow began to fall during the afternoon of October 31, 1991. This marked the beginning of a major winter storm that pounded the eastern half of Minnesota over a three day period. The storm dropped 28.4 inches of snow on the Twin Cities, setting a single storm record for the metropolitan area. Duluth received 36.9 inches, the largest single storm total in Minnesota history. Southern Minnesota saw an ice storm especially around Albert Lea and Austin. Highway snow removal was hindered by extremely cold temperatures that followed the storm and transportation was hampered for many days."

That one was the epic of all storms. Winter essentially started with that big one at the end of october. Over two feet of snow, and perfect base snow at that. The cold drove the frost into the ground, making the snow firm for snowmobiling and skiing. We did get some short mild spells in november, but the snow held firm. 1991 was a good winter with steady cold and snow without the nasty january thaw.

Bring on the big one

I've got a feeling that my winter here in Toronto is gearing up to be a cold one already. Think I might have to move south soon and shimmy up to that equator. Anyone hiring chefs in the lower states?
Brrrrrrrrrrr
