Greg, Steve, Keith, Yvsa, Bob and all others - thought you'd find these interesting.

I made this set of woodcarving knives for my Dad as a Christmas present. I am not a knifemaker and the blades are not handmade, but everything else is...;)

Average OAL varies from 6-7"
Handle is Oregon Myrtlewood w/ brass
Finish is Tung Oil
Pin is brass and handmade - my mark "K"

Hope you all enjoy the pics.

Pen, those are some very nice tools. Good Job. Your dad will like them a lot.

Very nicely done Pen. I think any carver would be proud of them.
I like the mosaic pins, nice touch.
Regards,
Greg

WOODCHUCK ALERT!!! Firing up the woodchuck beacon and shining it towards Walosi land:D

VERY nice work Dan!!! :)

I'd put the woodchuck light up... but the wick burned out and I can't get it lit with the breeze here in SD :(

Alan

BTW>>> GREAT stuff Pen!

Bruise, Bill, Phil, Steve, Heber, Greg, Rob, Stephen and Alan = Thanks! I enjoyed making them so much that I think I'm going to make a set for me. (sans case)

Somehow, it won't be the same, though. Handmade knives as gifts always get "special treatment".

Perhaps the 2nd time around I won't make as many mistakes...:D

Very nice. How'd a make the pins? Brass and copper pins have always been my enemy, but youve made some sure purty ones:eek: :D

Dan this is another one I wanted to comment on earlier as well!!!!
Dan that's a most beautiful example of loving handiwork!!!!
I bet your dad is tickled pink, probably won't even let you use them.;)

Myrtle wood, it seems, can turn the utmost plain into a most beautiful pice of art work!!!!
Looks like you and the myrtle wood has succeded yet again!!!!!!!:D

Good show!

Really beautiful work - wonderfully figured wood. Man, just thinking what i would do to get my favourite khukuri handles like those... Making something of lasting beauty with your own hands is something special. Thanks for the fine pics

Federico - I made the pins by carefully  supergluing pieces of thin sheet brass cut into ~3/32" strips into a 1/4" thong tube then filling it with epoxy mixed with dust. Not an easy task for a chunky-fingered fellow like myself - but in the end, it's well worth it.

N2S - it's also the same guy looking over my shoulder and commenting on every mistake made...:D

Yvsa - yes, Dad loves 'em. I called Mom yesterday and she told me that his forearms and tops of his hands now have no hair...;)

Andrew - now you know why a few of us have been pushing to get "naked" khukuri blades...

Hmmmm...I wonder if I could send them a few pieces myself to play with...hmmmmmm.....

Bill = what do you think?
