I've been using my pm2 most when camping but find the handle too blocky. Any recommendations on a more comfortable folder for extended use applications?

The PM2 is considered one of the best “knives in the hand”. Can you please expound on what you mean by “too blocky”?

That might help us answer.

First knife I think of for extended use and comfortable to use is zdp189 endura.
Hard to beat imo.

Apologies for the beer.

I rounded the edges of my PM2 & Manix2 G10 handles slightly with wet/dry sandpaper. Made a big difference in comfort.

This is the most comfy handle on a folder I've ever used . Good steel , great strong lock . Would make an excellent camp knife , IMO .

If you mean the edges of the handle are too sharp/abrupt the I'd try filing the corners down a bit. If you still need thicker more contoured handles then there are some good options suggested above, but do you have any other parameters, like blade length, lock type, steel, blade shape, handle material etc.?

The edges on the back of the handle dig into my hand when doing hard slices on wood. The size of the pm2 is about perfect though. I was considering maybe a rat 1 but perhaps trying to contour the original scales is in order.

A lot of modern folders focus on being thin and light. For most of us, that's desirable. I often carry a knife of that type myself. I have one in my pocket as I type this.

But I agree that for extended use you want something a bit thicker, more hand filling, more rounded, I like knives for extended heavy use to have a handle at least half an inch thick.

Cold Steel Recon 1 has a handle that is very comfortable for extended use. Very hand filling and rounded. The Recon 1 has possibly the most comfortable handle of any folding knife I own.

I've heard similar praise about the ergonomics of the CS Ultimate Hunter, but am unable to confirm it because I don't have one.
