"comfortable" knives

i was playing with my old zytel ti-lite today and thought to myself how comfortable i was with it. i don't often carry it anymore; i have others that work better for my (rather limited) needs, but it was the first "serious" knife that i bought and i used it a lot for a few years. it never failed me, doing pretty much whatever i asked of it (even throwing! ) and generally being a comfort to have around.

i have more efficient EDC knives, but that ti-lite just feels right in my hand. it's like an old soft blanket or sweater in a way: not necessarily something you'll take along, but it feels good in a familiar way when you do have it. does that make any sense? :o

how about you guys? anybody have a comfortable knife like that? :)

I certainly remember the ti-lite. Never bought so many copies of a single knife. I lost my first, sold my second, and the third is sitting comforably in my bedside table. I'm not sure what to do with it. It's a useful knife, god knows, but the shape frightens people, and I don't feel great toting it around.

The knife I use most often these days, among the dozen-or-so that I own, is a tie between the CRKT Ringed Razel and the CRK Large Classic Sebenza.

Every time I've opened it for the last three years, the Seb has felt like the blade is welded in place. You don't get that from most knives. In my experience, most will develop play or wear within the first year or two. The Seb is different that way. It feels like a fixed blade when opened, and that has inclined me to use it fairly hard, and without a great deal of repercussion so far.

The Razel is outstanding simply by virtue of its design. I remember once being given the job of carrying a few odd tons of timber up a sheer slope; the other laborers and me did the bulk of the grunt work, but it was the Razel that cleared a landing space by prying spare foundation wood out of place so we could lay down the new stuff. The chisel-tip is among the most useful features I've seen on any knife. It bars you from the responsibility of ruining your knife's tip, so you can basically pry away, and a ton of other things, too.

Great knife.

Great knives.

i hear you about the scary aspect of the ti-lite. it's slim and nasty looking and really, really fast.... but then, aren't most cold steel knives kinda scary looking? ;)

and that ringed razel is a neat piece! if i worked with wood or construction i'd definitely pick one up.

My comfort knife? Has to be my CRKT Ryan model 7. It just melts into my hand. Plus it was the first folder I bought and carried for a year.

I absolutely love the feel of the Spyderco Delica. It beats even my beloved Orange Mili in terms of ergos. (then again I only have two good knives...)

I also like SAKs and Opinels. It's that feeling of being so close to the edge that I like.

I also find the Buck 110 to be one of the most comfortable knives. In fixed blades it is a Randall #1 with leather grip.

anything designed by bob kasper always fits my hand well, the crawford kasper, perfigo, polkawski companion, all fit my hand very well.

most emersons also fit my hand almost as well.........

i also like my spyderco Ti ATR's grip a lot.

Another vote for the Spyderco Delica.
Fits my hand better than any other folder I have ever owned, and as a result is my usual EDC.

Buck 110 with Ti handle is a close second.

For me it would actually be my mora, i love that knife, especially since i made it mine by taking it apart and removing the fingerguard, making a new leather sheath for it, and adding a patina. Plus I inherited it from my grandfather so it is special in that way too.

Funny, cause I was just having the same thoughts this morning. For me, it's any one of my Spyderco Militarys. I have alot of knives to choose from and I often carry something else, but the Military is definitely my comfort knife. Feels great in the hand and pocket, looks terrific, sharpens up easily and can handle any EDC chore I throw at it. I love my Millies!

For my hand Tim Gaylean's (JYD's and Lahar) and RJ Martin's designs are very good and comfy.

Groove and Junkyard Dog's with are awesome in ergonomics.

One that I always notice the feel when I pick it up is the Spyderco Native. It just fits so well. I've bought several over the years, and every time, it just screams comfortable.

Now, as far as comfort, as in like an old pair of shoes, it would probably be my MT LCC D/A. Every time I pick it up, the heft of it, and the ease of opening bring back memories. It's seen a lot of use, and barely shows it. Hearing the lock snap in place is music. I always shift it around to different grips, without even thinking about it, and I'm more familiar with it than any other knife I own.

It's definitely like my 5yr old's relationship with his stuffed "Doggie" for me. If I need a pick-me-up, all I have to do is fondle this knife for a little bit, and all seems right with the world. Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but not too much.;)
