Hello all!

Intro first off... 39 year old IT computer guy out of Memphis, TN. Married w/no children (Unless I can count my Eng Bulldog 'Harley'..) and a martial artist (currently in Aikido, but also dabbling with Escrima)...

As with everything that peaks my interest it seems that I discovered HI a little late in the game. I wish I had a dollar for each time I came into a group and heard something like "Remember the ole days when we did this and that?". I start getting jealous of the experiences I missed and such... Well here it goes again with my latest venture... HI Blades...

It seems a lot of the blades I am interested in have been discontinued... I have already sent a letter to Yangdu to maybe get on the list for a Karambit... I also like the Foxy very much... Bolo too! So many blades, so little $$...

And also... I jumped out and saw Mr. Koster's website and my eyes popped when I saw the custom handles he had done... Then my heart sank when I read he no longer did them...

But, regardless I am here now and looking forward to the conversations we will have and the blades I will attain... My poor wife has no clue... hehehe...

You are not late and some discontinued pieces will pop up from private sellers. That is how I got some of the more unusual blades.

A word of caution: have kids and your spending habits will radically change. :)

Love my little buggers but that fun money now goes for things like the latest school fundraisers, sports, diapers, etc.

Yet stick around here and you will find some really good deals.

GL, welcome. :D

Part of the excitement is never knowing what HI will be offering... but the quality from the newer kamis has been excellent on my latest.

Well, I'm sure that things are different now than when Uncle Bill ran the show (I'm, unfortunately post-Bill myself), but HI keeps coming out with new products all the time, and these still are the "good ol' days".

Also, Yangdu seems pretty open to placing custom orders. They may cost a little more, but when everything they make is custom, it's not that hard for them to work something into their schedule.

Oh, don't get me wrong... I have my eye one at least 4-5 of their current models, but I have been looking for something to carry everyday. When I first saw the HI Karambit I just thought, "That's it!"...

Welcome Guy .. watch out for a Gelbu Special .. I guess it's a good MA blade

Welcome to the forum GL.

That gelbu looks familar. ;)
Skyler. Of course you're familiar with it. It is your photo. My apology for not asking your permission in copying and pasting it in my posting. I found it via Google Search and came across your thread in Sword Forum International whereby there is a link to your photobucket. Good picture and I thought it could be shown to Guy. Is it OK? Please let me know and I'll edit my previous posting to get rid of it if necessary. And please do forgive me of this unethical borrowing of other peoples photos :o

Talking about Gelbu Special, I have one unit which I bought from early batch. Pala said it is one blade that he prefered to bring along as a Gurkha. Many praised it's design. And I think it suits MA because of it's shape and it is in fact very light due to it's wide chirra.

Of course its fine to post it. As long as my photos are not used in anyway to damage HI then anyone can post them.

Gelbu are one of my favorate designs, the fuller really adds charactor.
