Commander as palm stick

Hock suggests that a folder can be used in place of a palm stick, providing it is not too wide for the hand. I was holding my Commander as a palm stick and noticed that closed, the handle seems pretty big for palm stick capacity...meaning that my hand might get hurt worse than the BG. Also, it seems that the Wave would cut into my fingers if I used the knife as a fist load for punching. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Thank you,

I have medium to smaller hands (it just means I wear smaller gloves, nothing else!)

A closed Commander is a tad thick to be punching people with it closed in my fist.

I have however used in successfully used it as a yarawa, using the pointed butt for strikes and use on pressure points.

I hold it in my right hand, the back of the blade under my fingers. The wave sits between my index and middle finger and my thumb curls over the pivot end.

This is pretty OT but my balisong fits perfectly in to both of those categories.

I personally have large hands ( I wear X-Large sized gloves ) and the commander fits pretty decently in my palm. I could use it to punch with but I haven't really thought about it and it's probably not something I'd do.

I suggest the Benchmade AFCK or 710 as a better choice for fist load and folder.

Cheers,
Damon

The CQC6 works well in the fist as well, the pointed end really makes people sit up and take notice if you use it on a pressure point !

Not to post this in the Emerson forum But The spyderco Gunting was designed for that !!
Ok OK I am leaving LOL

Who cares?

You can damage someone with any hard object in your hand. The Commander is no different. The Pommel will tear you up nicely. The Wave when it digs into flesh during a wrist lock is special too.

I second that damn

.

Why risk hurting your Commander simply for punching someone? If you wanted to hurt someone using a punch, use a belt buckle... the special kind, though.. you know, the ones you find on Blade Auction

I have used my CQC6 as a yawara in the past (very successfully). I prefer this technique used in conjunction with a hammaer fist for strikes. I have been in enough job related fights that I avoid ever striking with a closed fist using my knuckles. I have seen enough guys break their knuckles to avoid this. During the last few years pushing a black & white, I was wearing gloves with padded knuckles, just in case I "forgot" to not hit people in the head with a closed fist.

I agree on the hammerfist. I'm sort of a "Jim Grover/Bob Kasper" advocate in many ways, the W.W.2 H2H scene and whatnot, big believer in the hammerfist, axe (ridge-knife hand) hand, palms, etc.

As for a balls to the wall Palm Stick, James Piorek and I took an idea from Japanese Koppojutsu...specifically in Hatsumi Sensei's book "Stickfighting" and came up with something neat in Titanium.

I will re-Post stuff on the Koppo Stick in the JSP Forum tonight for you guys/gals/lurkers, and then you can see it. And the idea behind(s) it.

After reading this thread last night I got to playing around with some of my folders and only in my opinion, I consider the specwar folders probably the most comfortable and maybe safest to the hand while closed and being used in this manner.Just my .02 worth. Dave
